VADIO is located at the Poutena village in the BAIRRADA region. It is a small family project founded in 2005 by the winemaker Luís Patrão that has as an essential element the recovery of BAIRRADA’s traditional grape varieties and the production of authentic DOC BAIRRADA wines. We have three small and very distinct vineyards and an old warehouse that we have adapted in a very simple manner for the production of wine. Our wines present a very classic style that intends to respect the authenticity of the region and its character.
Baga is the predominant red grape in Bairrada. It is a late ripening, vigorous variety of very small berries. In clay and limestone soils with good sunlight exposure, Baga can mature well and produce wines of delicate color, that can age for a very long time in bottle.
Vadio is a project from the couple Luís Patrão and Eduarda Dias. Born in Bairrada, Luís divides his time between Vadio and Alentejo, where he worked for 13 years at Herdade do Esporão, and is currently the winemaking director at Herdade de Coelheiros. Eduarda, a Brazilian from Pernambuco and granddaughter of a Portuguese from Dão, has lived in Portugal for 11 years and runs the daily life of the small family business.
