Herdade de Coelheiros, is an estate in the Alentejo (DOC) region in Portugal that has been producing wines since 1991. Coelheiros stretches over 800ha, with 50ha of vineyards, 40ha of a walnut orchard and a vast area of cork forest, where sheep and deer graze freely. The history of Herdade de Coelheiros, first documented in 1467, has always followed a similar philosophy, despite changes in ownership: preserve the estate’s natural heritage, its biodiversity, always relentlessly pursuing excellence.
Being a model of a typical Alentejo estate from 100 years ago – not a monoculture, but a mosaic of cultures and habitats – Coelheiros celebrates heterogeneity and makes the most of its unique biodiversity which promotes and protects. Our philosophy is based on the highest respect for nature. We favour the harmony among the vineyards, walnut orchard, cork forest and the richness of the native flora and fauna, which makes Coelheiros’ terroir unique. In Coelheiros, we believe we have the unique opportunity to make a difference by achieving resilience through balance.
Our winemaking philosophy is to apply minimal intervention and allow the natural environment to ensure that varieties can reach their full potential. Coelheiros’ wines stand out for their freshness, balanced acidity, elegance and aging potential.
